Get ready girl it sucks! My husband just finished residency and started his "real" job and I hate it. He is gone more and has more responsibilty than before. I feel I never see him anymore. He was the best husband and dad during residency. Now that he has all the pressure on his shoulders of being the "real doctor" he has really starting slacking at home. Good luck with everything it is a really hard life.

Your post made me cry. Not sure why, probably because I am an emotional person to begin with compounded with being married to a 3rd yr med student and being the mom of the most wonderful 1 1/2 yr old in the world. I guess we all have so many little moments - pleasant and unpleasant - that have resulted in our amazingly wonderful lives.

Thanks for the happy tears!

I just found your site and can absolutely relate! My husband just started his internship year and will start his dermatology residency next July. We have a 16-month old, and lots of people ask us why we did wait. How could we? I can't imagine our crazy medical school / residency life without him in it. I can't wait to read more!

I have just been google-ing all the info to do this as well and I stumbled upon your instructions. Thanks for spelling it all out step by step! I love the rocketship also! I was wondering what type of fabrics you like the best for this.

Thanks Again for putting this out there :-)

You are an uber crafter. This puts me to shame. I am such a slacker when it comes to projects like this, but these are so cute. Thank you so much for sharing!

Thank you for this post. I am a wife of a first year med student and I just found this blog. We have two little ones, and a long road ahead of us, as you know. I get the standard judgmental questions...why didn't you wait? How do you afford to be a full-time mom while your husband is in school? Or, you are not seriously considering having another one? We have a small apartment, but we are not the first people to raise a loving family in a small space. People do it, and I actually view it as a challenge. How boring to have a separate bedroom for each child, and seriously who wants to clean a huge house:) Anyways, thanks for your post, I could personally relate. I was the momma at the white coat ceremony with a noisy 3 month old. [grin]

Wow. That postal worker was so rude! I also let my 3 year old choose whether or not to wear a coat and then live with the consequences. After reading your story I won't be so surprised someday when someone decides that I'm a bad parent too. You are right though, we moms do need to pour out understanding on our fellow moms.

Great post. A very similar situation happened with me when my first was only a baby. I had to drop off my husband's watch to get fixed, and the jeweler was aghast that my baby was not bundled up from head to toe. He went on and on about how I needed to keep her warmer. Mind you, it was a sunny, bright day - just a little on the cool side AND my baby happened to generate enough heat for the both of us. We always called her our little oven. She was an absolute sweat hog. Anyway, I finally told the man that I was her mom and I knew how to take care of her. I honestly can't believe I was that assertive with a stranger, but I'd had enough.

He later called to apologize and confessed he came from a different culture (somewhere in South America, I believe) where they always swaddle their babies in lots of blankets.

These days I still don't always force that same baby - who's now 4 - to wear jackets. You choose your battles and if she refuses to wear a jacket, then fine. She'll just have to live with the natural consequences if she gets cold. I'm sure I get some looks, but c'mon, people, I live in the South and it doesn't get all that cold around here.

You are so right about not judging moms or anyone else - we don't know their interior lives. Let's not so quickly jump to conclusions.

Hope your little one is feeling better!
